The Details of Hourly Moving Rates

If you just need labor without a truck, our off-peak rate is $109/hr for 2 movers. During our peak season (May through August) and at the end of every month, this rate increases to $119/hr. If you need a truck, 2 movers with a 20-ft truck will cost you $119/hr off-peak and $129/hr during peak season. For larger homes requiring a 26-ft truck and 3 movers, the rate is $139/hr off-peak and $175/hr peak.

In addition to the hourly rate, a standard 1-hour travel fee applies to all jobs. This fee covers the time it takes for our crew to travel to your starting point and return from your final destination. We also have minimum billing requirements: 2 hours for off-peak moves and a strict 3-hour minimum during peak season and month-end dates. This means that if your peak-season move takes only 2 hours, you will still be billed for the 3-hour minimum plus the travel fee.

When a Fixed-Price Quote is the Better Option

While hourly rates are generally straightforward, there are situations where a fixed-price quote is highly recommended. If you are moving to or from a high-rise condo in Centretown or a densely populated area in Gatineau, unexpected delays are common. You might have to wait for a shared service elevator, or you might get stuck in traffic on the Portage Bridge during rush hour (7:00 AM - 9:00 AM and 3:30 PM - 5:30 PM). With an hourly rate, you pay for every minute of those delays. With a fixed-price quote, the moving company assumes the risk of traffic and elevator wait times.

Parking is another critical factor. Whether you choose hourly or fixed pricing, you must secure a Temporary No Parking Permit (TNP) for moves in downtown Ottawa. Applying for this permit via the City of Ottawa portal costs $50 to $100 and requires 3 business days' notice. Without it, your move could be delayed by fines or towing, turning an hourly rate into a very expensive endeavor.

Choosing the Right Model for Your Needs

If you are moving out of a small 1-bedroom apartment in Kanata with straightforward parking and no elevator, an hourly rate will almost always be the most cost-effective option. If you are moving a large 3-bedroom home from Gatineau to a condo in the ByWard Market, a fixed-price quote might protect you from unforeseen delays.
