Moving in Gatineau

Gatineau Movers for Every Sector of the City

Gatineau isn’t a one-size-fits-all moving market. A high-rise condo move in the Plateau feels completely different from a rural transition out in Buckingham. We get the nuances. From syncing our trucks with unpredictable bridge traffic to managing long rural driveways, we focus purely on your sector’s unique logistics.

Moving in Gatineau — what you should know

Gatineau spans a diverse mix of property types and neighbourhoods, each with its own logistical character. Whether you're leaving a high-rise, a townhouse, or a detached home, our team tailors every move to the specifics of your address.

We regularly work in areas like Plateau, Pointe-Gatineau, Limbour and Buckingham — places where local familiarity matters when selecting the right truck access point, respecting building rules, and timing your departure.

As a bilingual moving company rooted in the Ottawa-Gatineau region, we understand the seasonal demands of the area — from harsh winters that require extra planning to busy month-ends when loading docks book up days in advance.

How much does a move in Gatineau cost?

Local moves in Gatineau are billed by the hour, from the moment the crew arrives until the last item is placed: from $119 an hour for two movers and a 20-foot truck, $129 an hour for two movers and a 26-foot truck, and $175 an hour for three movers and a 26-foot truck. These are our minimum rates, valid on weekdays from the 5th to the 25th of the month; weekends, month-ends and busy periods cost more. If you already have a truck or a container, labour only starts at $109 an hour.

A small apartment usually takes 2 to 4 hours and a house 4 to 8 hours. A one-hour truck fee is added to every move. For example, a one-bedroom apartment moved in 3 hours by two movers with a 20-foot truck comes to $476 before taxes at our weekday rate (3 hours plus the truck fee, at $119). The minimum is always 3 billed hours: 2 hours of work plus the truck fee.

July 1 and peak season in Gatineau

In Quebec many leases end on June 30, which makes the week around July 1 the busiest of the year in Gatineau. If you are moving then, book 3 to 4 weeks ahead, or earlier if you need July 1 itself. Outside peak season, one to two weeks’ notice is usually enough.

Moving between Gatineau and Ottawa

We cross the river every day, so a Gatineau–Ottawa move costs the same per hour as a move within Gatineau. Travel time between the two addresses is part of the billed time, so we choose the bridge — Champlain, Chaudières, Portage or Macdonald-Cartier — and the hour of the crossing to avoid traffic.

Long-distance moves from Gatineau

Leaving the Outaouais? Long-distance moves are a flat rate, with one dedicated truck and the same crew from start to finish: Kingston from $1,400, Montreal from $1,500, Toronto from $2,500 and Quebec City from $2,980.

Oleg, Vladimir & Radion are fantastic! I couldn't be happier with the job they did! They were so friendly, professional & efficient! I hired them to move my business from an hour outside of Ottawa into the city. Oleg met me ahead of time and viewed both places & what I was moving. I had several heavy appliances to be moved, and I was worried about them fitting in my new location. Oleg was very reassuring that they would put every effort into getting them in & put me at ease immediately. They had to carry in the fridges & freezers & flip them around to stand them up under a low ceiling. They moved a couch up a flight of stairs & it was heavy and not an easy fit. They were so friendly while they worked and had great senses if humour! They took a lot of care with everything they moved & the space. They worked quickly & efficiently, disassembled items, removed door hinges, and they put everything where I wanted. It was the easiest and least stressful move I've ever gone through & I can't recommend them enough!

UpMove led by Oleg is an excellent business. The team who helped us really cared about our belongings and were very efficient. They worked so hard to get the truck to fit for the load out and delivered early the next day as we moved cities. This team are pros and I would highly recommend to anyone moving within city and to a different city. Very clear pricing model with great communication for the clients. Thank you rod, Tanya, Nadia, old, Alex and Andrew for all your help. You guys are amazing

Oleg and his team were exceptional for my move from Ottawa to Montreal! I will absolutely be using them again. They showed up on time, worked incredibly efficiently, and handled my items with care. They even went the extra mile and fixed a drawer for me before packing it on the truck. They were very accommodating when I had an address update and made the day as stress free as one could expect a move to be. Their “we got this” attitude really helped to keep me at ease throughout the day. Thank you so much for the awesome experience!

I hired UpMove Ottawa to move me from my apartment unit to another unit. They showed up earlier than expected; but they gave me notice of the time change. Andrew and Rad were very efficient and friendly. They were very professional and the move went well. I was very impressed when I arrived at my new place to see the boxes neatly stacked. The furniture was well placed too. I would hire UpMove again when needed. I highly recommend them to anyone who needs a moving company for their move.

The estimate was spot on, and they handled everything with care. All our furniture was disassembled and reassembled perfectly. Truly a top-notch moving experience – highly recommend!

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

A local Gatineau move usually starts between $119 and $129 an hour for two movers and a truck. These are our minimum rates, valid on weekdays from the 5th to the 25th of the month; weekends, month-ends and busy periods cost more. The final cost flexes depending on your stairs, volume, and if we’re making the long haul from the Plateau out to Buckingham. You’ll always get a free quote first.

Expect 2 to 4 hours for a smaller apartment. A full Gatineau house takes 4 to 8 hours. What shifts the timeline? Heavy volume, Plateau condo elevators, or out-of-the-way drops in Masson-Angers.

Absolutely. Gatineau is our backyard. We cover everywhere from Hull to Aylmer, handling both hyper-local jobs and cross-bridge moves daily.

Simply submit a quote request online in a couple of minutes, or call the team. We usually reply with our availability within 24 hours.

For a studio or one-bedroom, two movers and a 20-foot truck (from $119 an hour) are usually enough, for 2 to 4 hours of work, plus a one-hour truck fee. The minimum is always 3 billed hours. Packed boxes and furniture taken apart in advance lower the bill.

Long-distance moves are a flat rate based on volume and distance: Kingston from $1,400, Montreal from $1,500, Toronto from $2,500 and Quebec City from $2,980. Your belongings stay in the same truck, with the same crew, all the way there.

No, the hourly rate is the same on both sides of the river. Only the travel time between the two addresses adds to the billed time, and we cross outside rush hour whenever possible.

For the July 1 period, book at least 3 to 4 weeks ahead; the best time slots go first. The rest of the year, one to two weeks is usually enough.

Winter-ready trucks with ice melt for Quebec roads

Gatineau is our core market, and each sector behaves differently—from Plateau condos to Buckingham family properties. Bilingual coordination and bridge-aware routing help keep Gatineau moves efficient on both sides of the river.

Gatineau-specific moving tips

Cross-bridge Gatineau moves should be scheduled outside peak Ottawa commute windows, especially when using the Champlain or Portage corridors later in the day.

Buckingham and Masson-Angers addresses often involve longer eastbound travel and larger lots, so give extra time for outbuildings and detached garages.

In Plateau and newer condo zones, reserve elevator access early because high-density buildings book moving slots quickly around month-end.
